Why Treaties Matter & the MN Indian Affairs Council

This plenary sessions will outline the history of American Indian treaties in the state of Minnesota, dispelling common misunderstandings. This will include learning about Native nations prior to colonization; the history of displacement, genocide and forced assimilation; and their current reality today as sovereign nations. Annamarie will then highlight the work of the MN Indian Affairs Council to right the wrongs perpetuated against Native nations in MN, “working with a spirit of togetherness toward a balanced Minnesota.”
